Ambassador Ahmed Hassan, Charge d’Affairs of Yemen to South Africa commemorated the 60^th Anniversary of the September 26 Revolution with his fellow compatriots in Cape Town. Yemen also celebrates Liberation Day on October 14, which marks the beginning of the uprising against British rule in 1963. On November 30 the country celebrates Independence Day celebrated as the anniversary of the declaration of independence from the United Kingdom in 1967.

South Africa and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a memorandum of understanding to benefit both countries in the areas of trade and investment. Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Ebrahim Patel and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective countries.

Prior to the signing ceremony, both Ministers witnessed the launch of the South Africa-Saudi Arabia Joint Business Council.

Zandile Dlamini from Ntabankulu in the Eastern Cape who underwent manufacturing training through the Princess Stella Sigcau II Skills Development Initiative in September, is due to attend training offered by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency from 10-14 October 2022 to further enhance her entrepreneurship skills. This will also give her an opportunity to exhibit her products to an international market.

A serene evening lit by glowing lanterns set the ambience for a beautiful celebration of Gandhi Jayanti. The celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on 2 October 2022 took place at Satyagraha House in the leafy suburb of Orchards in Johannesburg where the Mahatma lived from 1908 to 1909. The evening included a meditation session as well as a beautiful rendition of Gandhi’s favourite bhajans (devotional songs).

The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg in association with Nedbank and Yobuningi is organizing “India – South Africa: Growing Together” (a B2B Networking Event) on Friday, the 14 October 2022: At Gold Reef City Theme Park Conference Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.

India and South Africa share excellent business relations. The bilateral trade between the two countries has reached USD 17bn in the last financial year. Business sectors of India interact regularly with their South African counterparts, especially in the sectors of IT, Mining, infrastructure, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, heavy machinery etc.

Dr Greg Mills, Director of the Brenthurst Foundation presented well researched scenarios in his lecture titled ‘How Russia’s war will end: lessons why nations succeed.’ Mills has travelled to both Poland and Ukraine on many occasions in the midst of the conflict, gathering information on the ground, first hand. Ambassador Andrzej Kanthak of Poland to South Africa hosted Dr Mills at the Embassy of Poland in Pretoria, to share his experience with diplomats based in the City of Tshwane.

The deaf experience music through feeling vibration and responding to the frequency of the beats and the timing of the rhythms generated by the sound waves said Maite Nkoana Mashabane, South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency responsible for Persons with Disabilities. She was addressing guests at a reception celebrating the Republic of Korea’s National Day.

In the early 1990’s both Slovakia and South Africa began their journeys to construct democratic societies. Slovakia became an independent state on 1 January 1993 after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, also known as the Velvet Divorce. This year Slovakia celebrates 30 years of its Constitution and to commemorate this milestone Ambassador Vladimir Grácz of Slovakia to South Africa held a reception in Pretoria.

Paula Slier’s emotive documentary ‘The questions I never asked’ is certainly poignant, not only in its content, but also in its timing at this extra-ordinary inflection juncture in human history.
