On Tuesday, 23 September 2025, the trio,Thapelo Kgwadi (Taps), Lethabo Joseph (LJ) and Ntsako Munyuku (Future) embarked on their journey walking from the Union Buildings, Pretoria, to the highest point in South Africa, Mafadi Peak in the Drakensberg Mountains.

The three like-minded members of the ‘For the Kids Foundation’ have been working in the outdoor experiential learning field for over a decade and have worked with and gotten to know each other over the years. They are passionate about unlocking potential, nurturing opportunities and creating opportunities for children, and with this trip they would like to raise awareness and funds for outdoor education programs for underprivileged schools in townships and villages across South Africa. “Every step we walk and climb represents a step towards brighter futures for young people,” they say. They ask for support to help them in this mission.

The 560km journey from the Union Buildings started on Tuesday, 23rd of September. They are on track with their goal of reaching the end of their journey by Thursday, the 2nd of October. They reached 320km on Monday and below is a picture of them at Sterkfontein dam on Tuesday, the 30th of September.

Despite their skill as experienced hikers, they have encountered challenges like blisters and muscle aches from walking long distances and rain, for which they are always prepared. However, their most difficult challenge, they said, is in finding places along the way to pitch their tents. The trio relay their appreciation for the people who have been welcoming and accommodating to them. They were keen to point out that their challenges do not outweigh their fulfillment of the journey. “We will be very tired and fatigued when we get to the foot of the mountains, however we know that God’s grace will carry us to the top of the peak and make us victorious,” they say.

The trio are posting about their journey on Instagram and TikTok: @ForTheKidsFoundation.

With the funds raised they aim to launch their outdoor education program in 10 schools with their pilot program and to grow from there. They believe that their program will evolve education in the way that it needs to with the evolving society. The company believes that “our country and the world requires confident and impactful people in order to carry us to greatness,” and that their program will create purpose driven, resilient and confident citizens and leaders. ‘For the Kids Foundation’ wants to share their gratitude for all the support that they have received thus far.

We wish them luck for the rest of the journey and for the fulfillment of their dream!
