China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese Embassy in Ghana jointly hosted a high-level dialogue on governance and global development in Accra, Ghana, on Friday, following the conclusion of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The event brought together participants to exchange views on China's governance experience, its relevance to global development and the role of international cooperation in building a more prosperous and inclusive world.

“As a global survey by CGTN shows, in the eyes of respondents around the world, the CPC has developed a set of institutional norms for upholding and strengthening Party leadership and has translated them into tangible advantages in national governance,” said Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and President and Editor-in-Chief of CMG.

“This offers an effective approach to governance different from that of Western political parties and contributes Chinese insights to the exploration of better models of political party governance,” he added.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Cong Song said China consistently adheres to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. He noted that China practices true multilateralism and leads the reform of the global governance system, offering a “Chinese solution” for upholding the international order and improving global governance.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana's Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said China's development experience offers valuable lessons on the importance of long-term planning, infrastructure investment, industrial development, technological advancement and institutional capacity in accelerating economic transformation.

She also encouraged Ghanaian and Chinese institutions, businesses, investors, media organizations and cultural institutions to use the dialogue as a springboard for practical initiatives and lasting partnerships.

Halid Abdul Rauf, National Vice Chairman of Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC), called for Ghana-China cooperation to move beyond traditional trade and infrastructure projects towards deeper economic transformation.

During a panel discussion, Richard Asante of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana and Samia Nkrumah, a former member of parliament and Pan-Africanist, joined other panelists to examine the lessons China's economic and social transformation could offer for Africa's development.

The discussion explored how China's governance experience could inform modernization efforts in Ghana, West Africa and the wider Global South, while recognizing the different national priorities and development contexts across the region.
