South African Trade Consul Visits Macau Suppliers Association to Explore New Opportunities for Economic and Trade Cooperation

On 3 March 2026, Stella Sigcau, Consul, Political and Economic, from the South African Consulate General accredited to Hong Kong and Macau, attended a symposium with the Macau Suppliers Association.
With the support of the Macau Investment Promotion Institute, the Consulate and the Association held a symposium at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Trade and Economic Cooperation Service Platform Complex, conducting in-depth discussions on topics such as trade and investment attraction, tourism linkage and the policy dividends of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone. The meeting was warm and friendly, and both sides reached several preliminary consensuses on future cooperation directions.
Li Jiexing, Chairman of the Macau Suppliers Association, gave a detailed introduction to the association's development at the meeting. He stated that in recent years, the association has actively responded to national strategies, proactively integrated into the "Belt and Road" initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, and fully utilized Macau's locational advantages as a China-Portuguese-speaking Countries' trade and economic cooperation service platform and the "Macau-Hengqin Integration" to contribute to the moderate diversification of Macau's economy.
The Chairman, Li Jiexing pointed out that the association has successively signed memorandums of understanding on trade and economic cooperation with Cambodia and Pakistan, and has begun substantive economic and trade exchanges. He expressed his hope to expand direct product trade with South Africa in the future and explore deeper collaborative development paths in areas such as investment, processing and cultural tourism.
He emphasized that the association will continue to cooperate with the Macao SAR government's policy, fully leverage its role as a "super-connector," and continue to promote economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, African countries, and other parts of the world.
Consul Stella Sigcau affirmed the Macao Suppliers Association's contributions to stabilizing people's livelihoods and promoting the economy. She detailed South Africa's resource advantages and development potential in areas such as trade, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and the marine economy, and paid close attention to the latest business environment and policy benefits of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone. She stated that South Africa hopes to further expand into the Chinese and Portuguese-speaking countries markets through the Macao platform and promote pragmatic cooperation between enterprises of both sides.
This meeting further enhanced mutual trust and interaction between the business communities of Macao and Africa, laying a solid foundation for deepening future cooperation. Both sides agreed to maintain close communication, jointly seize the new opportunities brought by national development strategies, and promote bilateral economic and trade relations to a new level.
Representatives from the Macau Suppliers Association who attended the meeting also included: Vice Presidents Situ Bikkwang and Hollies, Executive Vice Chairmen Ye Zhaohui and Li Zhongyan, Vice Chairmen Wang Yanhui, and Executive Director Zheng Wenda; the South African Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau was represented by the Consul General's Secretary.
