Bird watching in Ecuador

Ecuador is every birdwatcher's dream.

This country promises more than 500 species of birds which can be found in different regions of Ecuador. Each region is known for its own species and therefore birdwatchers tend to travel to certain regions.

There are a few places where one can go, from the Ecuadorian Amazon to the Galapagos Islands.

Species to be seen





Avid birdwatchers might know that the Hummingbird is one of the most popular bird species in Ecuador. They are usually jewel toned and can be found near Loja. Many a birdwatcher has traveled there to observe this beauty in all its glory.

Another species that Ecuador is most proud of is the Andean Condor. The first place this beauty can be spotted on is on the Ecuadorian flag. The sad reality is that there are only a few hundred left in Ecuador, which makes it so much more thrilling when the opportunity to see a Condor arises.

Other species that can be spotted include tinamous, guans, chachalacas, curassows, quail, flamingos, grebes, cuckoos, oilbirds, potoos, nightjars, allies, swifts, hoatzin, limpkin, trumpeters, penguins and many more.

Therefore it is insisted that you travel to Ecuador to experience the magnificent beauty of Ecuadorian bird watching.
