Union of Local Employees of Missions Accredited to South Africa - ULEMASA

ULEMASA is an independent organization formed in terms of section 4(1) of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 by the local employees who are working in foreign missions and in international organizations accredited to the Republic of South Africa.

After a members meeting on 9 June 2018 the Union of Local Employees of Missions Accredited to South Africa - ULEMASA, received its registration from the Department of Labour on the 18th July 2018.  

"Our purpose is to provide a professional, transparent environment on how to handle disputes that arise between our members with their employers. We focus on a holistic approach of missions conferred with immunities and privileges by using Immunities and Privileges Act 2001, that reads with the South African constitution, 1996, the Foreign states Immunities Act 1981, Labour Relations Act, 1995 and it's amendments of 1997, Uniforms rules of court, Vienna convention on diplomatic Relations, 1961, Vienna convention on Consular Relations 1963 and any other relevant legal provisions," explained the President Sello Pelo and Secretary General Richard Muhirhi.

The objectives of the organization among others include mediation and relationship building, to promote security of employment, to prevent unlawful labour practices and implements reasonable living wages.
