UAE Embassy Women's Day initiative

The staff at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in South Africa visited the Youth for Survival shelter on Women's Day and donated goods. The donation included 50 buckets of food, toys for the children and toiletries for the ladies.

Youth For Survival is a non-profit organisation (NGO) based in the Marabastad community of Pretoria.  It has helped with community-focused development for widows, abandoned women and rape victims for 20 years.

The Mission delegation was lead by First Secretary, Ms. Fatima Al-Suwaidi.

The Embassy was warmly welcomed by the shelter director Mandisa Moshy Mathe and staff members. A choir, which sang beautifully, was assembled to thank the UAE delegation. One of the songs delivered was a song in IsiZulu called "avulekile amasango" which translates to "the windows of heaven are open." The Centre director explained that the song was chosen to express how the shelter inhabitants felt upon hearing news of the Mission's donation.

The director thanked the Mission and the Mission affirmed that this was the beginning of a long lasting friendship whereby the Mission would continue to contribute to the shelter in future.

Mission staff were given a tour of the shelter and were fortunate enough to hear some of the heartening stories of people whose lives were turned around because of the care and guidance provided at the shelter.
