Enhancing visibility and promoting the image of the African Union

Students from Lycée Guebre-Mariam, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, visit the African Union Headquarters on a study trip

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 13 April 2015: The African Union Commission (AUC) welcomed today 20 February 2015 its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 115 students from the Lycée Guebre-Mariam, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The students were received on arrival by the Directorate of Information and Communication that facilitated the schools’ interest to enlighten the student on the activities and programs of the AUC.

The visit was aimed to increase the knowledge of the students on the different Organs and activities of the AU. It is with that perspective that they were led to the African Union Medium Conference Hall ( New Conference building), where they received briefings on the general historical background of the Pan-African Organization from the creation of the  Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963 to the African Union. The briefing was provided by representatives of the Directorate of Information and Communication (DIC) of the African Union.

For more understanding of the African Union Commission, a questions and answers session was organized to deepen their knowledge on the work of the Commission. The interaction with the children helped to address many issues related to African Union vision and missions particularly within the context of Agenda 2063 as well as flagship projects of the AU, among others.

The DIC urged the teachers of the school to advise their students about the key role they have to play for the achievements of the different aspirations of the Agenda 2063.
The visit ended with a comprehensive tour around the premises of the African Union Commission.

Worth noting that the guided tours at the AU headquarters falls within the framework of the DIC popularization strategy with the view to enhance visibility of the Union and promote the image of the organization through briefings and educative tours.  Since the beginning of the year 2015, the AUC has welcomed over 1500 visitors from different works of life including academicians, at its headquarters.
