Russia Cancelling Cancel Culture: A Cultural Reawakening in South Africa

On September 5th, the renowned violist Yuri Bashmet and the ensemble “Soloists of Moscow” inaugurated the 'Days of Spiritual Culture of Russia' at the Linder Auditorium, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. This event, part of the larger Russian Seasons initiative, showcases the rich cultural heritage of Russia and coincides with South Africa's Heritage Month celebrations, a period dedicated to honouring the diversity and vibrancy of South African culture.
At a press briefing prior to the performance, Bashmet emphasized the unifying power of music, noting its ability to foster deeper understanding and connections among people. He highlighted the success of the Summer Festival in Russia, where musicians from across the BRICS nations, including South Africa, participated in a rich cultural exchange. Bashmet also shared a personal anecdote from his recent safari adventure, recalling a playful moment when a giraffe curiously poked its head into his vehicle - a highlight of his South African experience and the joy of cultural and natural exploration.

Brazil, celebrated its National Day on September 7th, marking its independence from Portugal in 1822. As the largest economy in South America and a prominent player on the global stage, Brazil is a country of vast natural resources, cultural richness, and economic potential that is increasingly significant in a rapidly transitioning global world order.
During a reception held in Pretoria, South Africa, to celebrate Brazil's independence, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to South Africa, Mr. Benedicto Fonseca Filho, highlighted Brazil’s development journey and its evolving role in international relations. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including South African Minister of Social Development Nokuzola Tolashe, underscoring the strong and enduring ties between Brazil and South Africa. These ties are further enriched by historical connections, as Brazil is home to the world’s largest African diaspora, reflecting a deep and complex shared heritage between the two nations.

The 2nd of September holds great significance for the people of Vietnam. It was on this day in 1945 that the Socialist Republic of Vietnam came into being.  It was also on the same day 24 years later that Ho Chi Minh, who led Vietnam’s war for independence, departed this world.
Ambassador Hoang Sy Cuong of Vietnam to South Africa paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at a reception in Pretoria celebrating the 79th National Day of Vietnam. He echoed President Ho Chi Minh’s hopes and aspirations for a Vietnam of peace, unification and unity and prosperity that became the Vietnamese people’s guide to action at the birth of their new nation. 

 


Opening Ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games Celebrates Global Unity and Nomadic Heritage
 

Astana, Kazakhstan – The highly anticipated 5th World Nomad Games officially kicked off in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 8 September with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Astana Arena. Bringing together over 2,500 athletes and thousands of guests from 89 countries, the event is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of nomadic civilizations and the unique sports and traditions passed down through generations.
In his opening address, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the historical significance of nomadic cultures and their lasting legacy in shaping the world. “The Kazakh land is home to outstanding historical figures such as Al-Farabi and Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, who made significant contributions to the development of science and humanistic ideas. Our ancestors established powerful states and built beautiful medieval cities in the Great Steppe, including Otyrar, Turkestan, Taraz, and Saraishyk,” he noted.   

 
 

Partnership action plans in line with AU Agenda 2063: South African president

BEIJING, (Xinhua) -- The 10 partnership action plans proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) are all in line with the African Union's Agenda 2063, said South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
n a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the summit, Xi said that China stands ready to work with Africa to implement 10 partnership action plans in the next three years to jointly advance modernization.

BEIJING, (Xinhua) -- As an African proverb goes, "a friend is someone you share the path with." In the shared pursuit of modernization of the Global South, China and Africa have stood together as companions over the years.
Themed "Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future," the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which attracted over 50 African leaders, highlighted the common pursuit of China and African countries in realizing modernization.
