Africa Day message by HE Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and AU Chair

This year's Africa Day celebrations places particular emphasis on youth and education, central themes of the 2063 agenda, emphasizing that Africa's youth is its greatest wealth. It is the youth who will carry the future of the continent, said HE Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and AU Chair.
He said that investing in education means ensuring that every young African has the skills and opportunities necessary to contribute to the development of the continent. "We should strengthen our education systems, promote innovation and research, and create employment opportunities for our youth," he said.

Mexico has long been a promoter of gender equality at all levels, including at international and regional fora. In 1975, the 1st Women’s International Conference was hosted by Mexico and, in Multilateral fora, Mexican representatives have always advocated for key issues supporting women’s autonomy, such as the eradication and prevention of all types of violence against women.

First sitting of the National Assembly to be held on Friday

The first sitting of the National Assembly is expected to be held at 10am on Friday. This, according to a statement released by the Office of Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
South Africans cast their votes on 29 May in the country’s most contested elections since the dawn of democracy.
Section 51(1) of the Constitution empowers the Chief Justice to call the first sitting of the National Assembly after national elections.
“During the first sitting of Parliament the Chief Justice will administer the prescribed oath or affirmation, as the case may be, to members of the National Assembly.

Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, is facing an environmental crisis that threatens its land and people. Most parts of northern Nigeria have suffered severe desertification and drought. Mean annual rainfall in this region has dropped below 600mm, compared with 3,500mm in the south coast area. This change threatens the livelihoods of around 40 million people, especially livestock and smallholder farmers.

Through BRICS, there will be more women- and youth-led businesses, co-founder of the Africa Economic Leadership Council, South African businessman Percy Morapedi Koji, told Sputnik Africa.
