The space research activities were initiated in India during the early 1960s, when applications using satellites were in experimental stages even in the United States. As India completes 75 years of its independence, it is time to introspect the country’s space programme that has grown and evolved significantly in the last decades.

Notwithstanding the pandemic severe shock, India's macroeconomy is more healthy and ready for faster growth, eminent economist Ashima Goyal said, observing that recovery from both the first and second waves was faster than expected points towards inherent strengths of the economy.

Goyal in an interview with PTI said there are already signs of a rise in private investment in sectors where capacity constraints have appeared.

"Despite the Covid-19 severe shock, India's macroeconomy is more healthy and ready for faster growth than it has been for a long time. That recovery from both the first and second waves was faster than expected points towards inherent strengths of the economy," she said.

India has installed 100 GW renewable energy capacity, inching closer to target

The Indian government had set an initial target of installing 175 GW of renewable energy capacity, including wind, solar, and hydro, by 2022. It later raised this target to 450 GW by 2030.

India crossed the 100-gigawatt (GW) mark of installed renewable energy capacity, according to a statement by the Government of India, bringing it one step closer to its renewable energy targets.

“The total installed renewable energy capacity in India, excluding large hydro, has crossed the mile-stone of 100 GW. Today India stands at 4th position in the world in terms of installed RE capacity, 5th in solar and 4th in wind in terms of installed capacity,” the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in a statement.

‘India gave South Africa a lawyer, and South Africa gave India a Mahatma’.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, Gujarat in India on 2 October 1869. In 1888 he travelled to the United Kingdom where he studied law and as a young lawyer at the age of 24 he travelled to South Africa to take up a commercial case.

It is in South Africa that Gandhi experienced racism and he spent the next 21 years challenging racial discrimination in South Africa and it is here that he honed his political ideology, ethics and leadership skills which he used to challenge British colonialism in India.

Celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and India’s 75 years of Independence, the High Commission of India in Pretoria and the Indian Consulates in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town organised a week-long string of activities.

Turkey empowers South African Women Entrepreneurs

Dynamic and enterprising women gathered in Pretoria to receive awards after completing a week-long training course. The course was designed and driven by Jayshree Padayatchey from Shakti Empowerment in partnership with TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency) and SEDA (Small Enterprise Development Agency).
It is a well-known fact that small business is the backbone of any economy contributing to many aspects of a country’s growth and wellbeing. With unemployment in South Africa hitting a record high of 34.4% in the second quarter of 2021 according to a report by Stats SA, it is a no brainer that all spheres of the South African government should be actively promoting and enabling entrepreneurship, easing the way business is conducted.

Battle of Moscow (30 September 1941- 20 April 1942): Turning Point of World War II

On 22 June 1941, at 4AM, while the country was sleeping peacefully, without a formal declaration of war, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union. Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa – a plan, designed to destroy the USSR, to literally wipe it from the face of the Earth and turn its citizens into slaves, in full accordance with the wicked Nazi theory of racial superiority. Thus, the Great Patriotic War (often dubbed in Western historiography as the WWII at the Eastern Front) had begun. It claimed the lives of more than 26,6 million Soviet citizens.

From nothing to magnificence – Ningxia a Green Great Wall of China

From 25 to 29 September 2021, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), led by President Lin Songtian, former Ambassador of China to South Africa, together with the officials of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, hosted an expo, seminars, and tours that were attended by multinational senior executives, youth representatives and media.
At the Yuehai Convention Center, the Ningxia Foreign Affairs Office and local business shared key developmental goals, the history of the province and Ningxia’s strategic geographical position in China as it joins the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yinchuan Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ).
