DURBAN PRE-COP17 SUMMIT
South African Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa, and Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, officially opened the KwaZulu-Natal Pre-COP 17 Summit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban on Monday 26 September 2011.The summit is aimed at engaging various government partners to deliberate on KwaZulu-Natal's response to climate change issues facing the Province, a process that will lead to the development of a KwaZulu-Natal Climate Change Action Plan.

SANPARKS PLANTING TREES
South Africa National Parks (SANParks) Environmental Manager Ms. Maria Moate and other SANParks officials planted trees in celebration of Abor Week at the Monde Primary School in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. This is part of the Kudu Green Schools Initiative (KGSI) an environmental education program aimed at climate science literacy and creating awareness among learners of careers in conservation.
SANParks also recently celebrated National Park week which was launched at the Garden Route National Park.

The University of Pretoria (UP) participated in the 1er Festidanza Trujillo (Peru) 24-29 August, 2011, an epic affair featuring folk dancers from all over the globe. From day one, the breath-taking spectacle brought Trujillo to a standstill. The curious citizenry spilled onto the streets to witness the world march by, each delegation in the full splendour and grandeur of colourful costumes, waving country flags to song, dance and much fanfare.             Â

 Uruguayan Guitar Duo in South AfricaÂ

Ambassador Luis Bermudez of Uruguay to South Africa hosted Uruguayan duo Cecelia Siqueira (l) and Fernando Lima(r) in Pretoria recently. The musicians entertained audiences with a rich and wide repertoire. The concert was associated with the Celebration of the 1860 Anniversary of the Independence of Uruguay and the Bicentenary of the Emancipation Process of 1811.   Â

Ambassador Ali Halimeh of Palestine to South Africa thanked South African’s for their support for Palestinian statehood. The gathering took place in Pretoria on Friday September 23rd as Abu Mazin President of Palestine submitted a bid for the recognition of the Sate of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
