The Diplomatic Society has established a formal partnership with the Diplomatic Council (DC), a global think tank, business network and charity foundation in consultative status with the United Nations. The main aim of the Diplomatic Council is to serve as a bridge between diplomacy, economy and society. Members of the Diplomatic Council believe that economic diplomacy provides a solid foundation for international understanding and a more peaceful interaction amongst nations. A thriving economy bringing prosperity to mankind is one of the best guarantors of peace. Based on this recognition, the Diplomatic Council has transformed its goal of promoting international understanding into an economic mandate. The global DC business network is linked to the diplomatic communication level of the different DC member states.

Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles of the Philippines in South Africa hosted a reception to celebrate the 119th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence. Photo: Ambassador Angeles and Mr Gert Oosthuizen, Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation of SA In his remarks Ambassador Angeles said that on the economic front, the Philippines has been a top performer in the Asian region for a number of years already, attracting significant foreign investments due to sound macroeconomic policies of government. The World Bank expects a 6.9% steady economic growth for the Philippines for the next two years, driven by public and private investment.

Madagascar turns to SA for investment

Malagasy President Henry Rajaonarimampianina has urged South African businesses to invest in Madagascar. President Rajaonarimampianina said his country, which has recently come out of political instability, is in urgent need of investment. "Our ambition is one, and that is to improve the lives of our citizens. We call upon the South African business community to partner with us in this goal. We are here to give you compelling reasons to invest in Madagascar," said President Rajaonarimampianina. The conference was hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) in partnership with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) in Pretoria.and Tobago.
