Africanization – beyond decolonization

South Africans are rekindling their love for their land; they are redefining millennia old tradition and culture as it incorporates the modern South African society.
Komjekejeke the land of the Ndebele to the North of Pretoria recently commemorated King Silamba who is regarded as one of the heroic Kings who defied the imposition of colonial policies in the Kingdom whilst fighting for the preservation of the Ndebele way of life, culture and heritage. The event is also aimed at developing the Ndebele culture and traditions and sharing it with the rest of the world.

49th National Day of Mauritius

 H.E. Mr. P.V. Lutchmun, High Commissioner of Mauritius in South Africa hosted a reception to celebrate the 49th national day of Mauritius. Taking guests on a journey through history to the modern day Mauritius, High Commissioner Lutchman said, "After our independence on 12th March 1968, the political leadership of Mauritius set itself on the path of transforming the island into a global destination for traders, business executives and holiday-makers.

Marrying of two iconic World Heritage Sites
|
 Robben Island World Heritage Site (RIWHS) and Le Morne Cultural Landscape, (situated in the Republic of Mauritius), signed a Twinning Agreement at the Atlantic Imbizo, Clock Tower House at the V&A Waterfront. The prestigious event was attended by both South African and Mauritian delegates, where the agreement was sealed by Robben Island Museum’s (RIM) Council Chairperson, Mr. Sibusiso Buthelezi and Mauritius’ Minister of Sports and Culture, Honourable Prithvirajsing Roopun. Through this agreement, RIWHS will be able to solidify its connection to similar sites of social memory on the African continent. Pictured signing the agreement, is Buthelezi (left) and Mr J. It was a celebratory event as guests witnessed this historic moment of two iconic World Heritage Sites joining hands. Both these sites are a symbol of cultural diplomacy.

Freedom Park pays tribute to Sweden

 Human Rights Day is a significant day to South Africans for remembering not only the 69 people, who were killed during the Sharpeville Massacre, but all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for South Africa’s freedom, says Freedom Park Chief Executive Officer Jane Mufamadi.

“Our struggle was waged under the four arms, one being international solidarity, and therefore, in honouring those who sacrificed, we also pay tribute to the international communities that made the sacrifices and supported us,” Mufamadi said.
Speaking at a ceremony to memorialize the Swedish International Solidarity to people of South Africa during the liberation struggle, Mufamadi said it is an open secret that the Swedish people contributed greatly for the attainment of freedom and that they also continued to support South Africa even in preparing the country for the first democratic elections.
