 The High Commissioner of India, Mrs. Ruchi Ghanashyam hosted a reception in Pretoria to commemorate ‘ITEC Day 2016-17’.
In her welcoming remarks High Commissioner Ruchi Ghanashyam explained that ITEC Day is celebrated every year to facilitate scholars who have participated in the fully-funded training programmes offered each year by the Indian Government to about 160 countries including South Africa.
ITEC is the Indian Technical Economic Cooperation program which began in 1964 and it is considered to be an essential function of an integrated and imaginative foreign policy.
The program has since been expanded in both the geographical spread and sectoral coverage and is open to the public and private sector.
Those interested in the wide range of courses are encouraged to apply at the High Commission of India.

Thailand Armed Forces Day
|
 Col Pannawat Boonchai, Thailand Defence Attaché hosted a reception to commemorate the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day. The Royal Thai Armed Force’s actual Day is the 18th of January. It commemorates the victory and courage of King Narasuan the great and all the brave Thai kings who fought for freedom and unity of Thailand.
This day was also chosen to remind all Thai people of the significance of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, which has played a great role in protecting our national sovereignty, security and integrity.
At the reception tribute was paid to King Bhumipol Adulyadate the late Thai king. He was the world's longest serving monarch and passed away peacefully on 13 October 2016.

Oslo & Bergen Travel Expos 2017: Successful Promotion of South Africa

Sound of Buenos Aires comes to Africa

 Blending the sensuality of tango and the improvisation of jazz, Latin Grammy-nominated Argentinian band Escalandrum has created a sound that takes inspiration from a musical legend, but boldly interprets this with their unique contemporary style. Local music lovers can look forward to hearing them in April at their continental debut at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, with follow up performances in Joburg, Pretoria and Mozambican capital, Maputo.Founded in 2000 by drummer and composer Daniel ‘Pípi’ Piazzolla, grandson of Ástor Piazzolla, Escalandrum’s lineup has not changed in the 17 years since then, garnering numerous awards, touring more than 30 countries and performing at the world’s top festivals and clubs. A large part of their repertoire is taken from the late Ástor Piazzolla’s prolific body of work but they have also written and recorded an extensive selection of their own original music.

Shaping the global order – foreign policy beyond crisis management

 South African International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane concluded a successful working visit to Germany where she led the South African delegation to the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Bonn from 16-17 February 2017.
South Africa is one of the 19 member countries of the Group of 20 (G20) which, in addition to the European Union (EU), the 20th member, have been meeting regularly since 1999 to discuss global economic policy coordination.
Germany assumed the Presidency of the G20 in December 2016 and unveiled its overarching theme for its Presidency of “Shaping an Interconnected World” with the sub-themes of “building resilience”, “improving sustainability” and “assuming responsibility”.
The G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting convened under the theme: “Shaping the global order – foreign policy beyond crisis management.” Contemporary and future global security and development issues were deliberated by the Foreign Ministers. The topics of discussion included: "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development " "Maintaining peace in a complex world," and "Cooperation with Africa."
