 House Gracia, a place of safety for children in the North of Pretoria received a visit from Diplomats who made donations of stationery, beauty treatments and entertainment for the children.
Jevan Pillay of the High Commission of Mauritius said, “The most important thing here is not the financial contribution but the contribution in kind of us diplomats as volunteers.”
High Commissioner designate of Mauritius, Mr P Vijaye Lutchmun also joined in interacting with the children. He said it was important for the children to be able to realise their potential and become responsible citizens.
Mr Terry Rose from Seychelles (Charge d'Affaires C.I) and Mrs Nivedita Bauhadoor-Pillay (spouse of Jevan Pillay) sang songs, painted finger and toe nails, decorated cupcakes and gave lessons in playing the guitar. The clown, the magic shows, face painting and puppet shows brought a festive cheer to House Gracia.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Visit to Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, Republic of Congo and Nigeria

 Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is paying official visits to the Republic of Madagascar, the Republic of Zambia, the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Congo and the Federal Republic of Nigeria from January 7 to 12. The foreign minister's first trip of every year usually takes him to Africa, a practice that has been in existence for over two decades, already establishing itself as a fine diplomatic tradition.
The main purpose of Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit is to further explore with countries concerned on how to implement the major consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and African leaders as well as the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), against the backdrop of new changes emerging in international political and economic situations and new challenges turning up in African countries so as to assist Africa's rejuvenation and development, boost the upgrading of China-Africa cooperation and contribute to solidarity and common development among developing countries.
Deputy Minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo of DIRCO on a back to school campaign at the Bonga Primary School in Cape Town. With her was the Ambasador of Iran Mr Movahhedi Ghomi and the Chinese Consul-General Mr Yong Kang. They handed over stationary, school shoes and bags to the Principal of Bonga School Mr Ayanda Ncinane.

The 12th AU-EU Human Rights Dialogue

 The 12th AU-EU Human Rights Dialogue was concluded today in Brussels, Belgium. The Dialogue was led by the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Dr Aisha L. Abdullahi and the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Mr Stavros Lambrinidis.
The AU participants included Hon. Justice Sylvain Ore President of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, Hon. Prof. Benyam Dawit Mezmur, Chairperson of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, Hon. Maya Sahil-Fadel, Commissioner of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Mr. Omar Faruk Osman, Chairperson for Political Affairs Cluster of ECOSOCC, as well as other AU staff working on human rights-related issues. On the EU side the participants included Mr. Koen Vervaeke Managing Director for Africa, Ms. Lotte Knudsen, Managing Director for Human Rights, Amb. Mara Marinaki EEAS Principal Advisor on Gender Issues, Mrs. Kristin de Peyron, Head of Division, Pan-African Affairs, as well as EU staff working on human rights-related issues.
The AU-EU Human Rights Dialogue is held annually in pursuance of the decision of the 6th EU-Africa Ministerial Troika Meeting in Vienna that was confirmed at the subsequent 7th meeting in Brazzaville.
