Colombian Flavours

 
Mama Lucy, as she is affectionately known, is an internationally renowned Colombian chef. Lucy Trigidia Chow was in South Africa to present Colombian Cuisine at the first ever Colombian Food Festival that took place in Pretoria/Tshwane. Lucy Trigidia Chow, is from the islands of San Andres and since 2004 started imparting knowledge about the gastronomic diversity that Colombia has to offer.
Colombia is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse countries in the world giving rise to a rich cultural heritage. Colombian territory encompasses the Amazon rainforest, tropical grassland and both Caribbean and Pacific coastlines. The urban centres are mostly located in the highlands of the Andes mountains.
At the opening of the Colombian Flavours Food Festival H.E Dr Maria Eugenia Correa Olarte, Ambassador of Colombia to South Africa explained the historic link between Africa and Colombia stating that there are around 10 million people of African descent in Colombia. She said that this fusion of Latin and African heritage has created an art and culture that is unique to Colombia.
 
 

 

Russian Cultural Seasons

 
The Russian Cultural Seasons in South Africa opened with a concert by the world-famous Ossipov Academic Folk Orchestra in Johannesburg on 13th November 2016. They also perfrmed in Cape Town and Pretoria.
The concerts were a huge success and left the audiences spellbound. Welcoming guests to the opening Ambassador Petrakov emphasized that economic & political tracks of Russia-South Africa cooperation are vital, but cultural dimension is truly fundamental. Mr Vusithemba Ndima, Director-General of the South African Department of Arts and Culture congratulated Ambassador Petrakov on the success cooperation.
This is just the start of the Seasons, more great events and performances are coming to South Africa, as well as South African musicians and artists to Russia under the South African Cultural Seasons in Russia.

Promoting business opportunities between Norway and Africa

 
The Nordic-African Business Summit 2016, NABA’s annual flagship event, was held on Thursday 13 October in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.
38 speakers and around 400 African and Nordic business delegates and participants, including more than 20 ambassadors from African and Nordic countries, discussed how best to invest in the rapidly growing cities in Africa.

Welcoming remarks were given by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Børge Brende and he said, “The potential is endless when it comes to Africa and urbanization. Norway will partner with African countries that are also interested in private sector partnerships.”
The encouraging words were followed by plenary sessions and panel debates which included key speakers such as former President of South Africa, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, who focused his speech on the African State of Affairs and what it means for the future development of the continent.
