Advancement of academic cooperation between South African and Mexican universities

 The Chancellor (Rector) of Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM), Dr. Enrique Graue visited South Africa from the 6th until the 10th of July, 2016.
This event marked the first time, in the history of the bilateral relation, that a Chancellor from Mexico’s leading university visited South Africa. The visit will serve the advancement of academic cooperation between South African universities and Mexican higher education institutions.
Chancellor Graue signed general collaboration agreements between UNAM and the Universities of Pretoria, South Africa, Witwatersrand and Cape Town and met with the vice-chancellors of the aforementioned universities: Dr. Cheryl de la Rey, Prof. Mandla Makhanya, Dr. Adam Habib, and Dr. Max Price, respectively.

South Africa and France to consolidate relations
|
 During President Zuma's state visit to France, six cooperation agreements were signed. The South African Presidency said the visit will provide a platform for both countries to improve cooperation in various areas including trade and investment, energy, maritime, agriculture, science and technology, education and skills development, arts and culture, defence, development cooperation and international relations.
“Boosting economic relations and trade are high up on the agenda of the visit. France is an important trade, investment and tourism partner for South Africa.”
Stats indicate that in 2015, trade was standing at R33.6 billion between the two countries.
France remains an important source of foreign direct investment for South Africa with an estimated investment volume of over R24 billion.
France is also a major contributor to the South African inward tourism - with a total of 128 438 tourists from France that visited South Africa in 2015, according to the Department of Tourism.Read more

Venezuela celebrates 205th Anniversary of Independence

 Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Mrs. Mairin Moreno Mérida held a reception to celebrate the 205th Anniversary of Independence of Venezuela.
Venezuelan musicians Darwin Guevara on cuatrista, Manuel Camero Sierra on arpista and Nestor Luis Fajardo on maracas entertained the guests. Ambassador Mérida joined in the entertainment singing "Venezuela" and "Alma Llanera" to resounding applause.

Ambassador Mérida in her speech highlighted the growing relations between Venezuela and South Africa mainly in the areas of education and mining. She also said that from the South African mission they run a program "Sponsor a School in Africa", and currently sponsor a school in South Africa, in the Union of the Comoros, Swaziland, Lesotho, Seychelles and soon in Mauritius.

Argentina celebrates 200th Anniversary of Independence

 The 200th Anniversary of the Argentine Republic was celebrated in Pretoria, South Africa. Remarks were delivered by Minister Jorge Diaz de Biasi, Charge de Affaires of Argentina in South Africa and Deputy Minister Enver Surtee of Basic Education for South Africa.
