 The third India-Africa Forum Summit took place from 26 to 29 October 2015 in New Delhi, India. Jointly organized by the African Union (AU) and the Government of India, the Summit was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Robert Mugabe, Chairperson of the AU, who is also the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and H.E. Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, in the presence of H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), who presented a key note address at the inaugural ceremony of the Third Africa-India Summit.
In his opening remarks Prime Minister Modi said, "The fabric of this world is richer because of the 54 sovereign flags of Africa. Today, their brilliant colours have made Delhi the most special place in the world. To the 41 Heads of State and Government and the other eminent leaders; to the hundreds of senior officials, business leaders and journalists from Africa, I say this: we are deeply, deeply honoured by your presence today. To our visitors from the land where history began, humanity grew and new hope rises; From the deserts of the north, where the glory of human civilization shines through the shifting sands of time; From the south, where the conscience of our age has been forged – from Mahatma Gandhi to Albert Luthuli to Nelson Mandela; From the shores of Atlantic that has been at history’s tragic crossroads and now at the frontiers of many successes; From our neighbours on the resurgent east coast; From Africa’s heart, where Nature is generous and culture is rich; And, from the sparkling gems of island states; A very warm embrace of welcome and friendship from India."

Turkey – India relations reach new heights: Interview with Turkish Ambassador Burak Akçapar

Turkey and India enjoy warm and friendly relations and share a close historical relationship with strong cultural links between the two nations. The relationship between Turkey and India has steadily grown year by year in both scope and depth and spans many different areas of cooperation. Both countries are committed to deepening bilateral trade and investment and will continue to work together and collaborate even further.
In an exclusive interview with The Diplomatic Society, Turkish Ambassador to India His Excellency Burak Akçapar spoke to Srimal Fernando, Global Editor. In the interview Ambassador Akçapar shares his thoughts about commonalities in historical and cultural relations between India and Turkey, people to people relations, bilateral trade, tourism and the challenges Turkey is facing at present.
 A traditional celebration of the Czech National Day, 28 October, Day of the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, took place on 20 October 2015. The government of South Africa was represented by Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr. Kebby Maphatsoe.
In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador-Designate, Mr. Michal Král, explained the significance of the year 1918 in Czech history. He said."97 years ago the then Czechoslovakia was established and the Czech statehood was restored in its historical borders. We should be very fair to history. In 1918, after 3 centuries of not having our sovereign state, Czech Lands were however highly developed industrial country, with intensive agriculture and practically zero illiteracy.

Launch of Rwanda Internet Exchange Point

The African Union Commission (AUC), through the Infrastructure and Energy Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and ICT of Rwanda, launched the AU Support towards the Rwanda Internet Exchange Point to become one of the regional internet exchange points for Eastern Africa.
Through the African Internet Exchange System (AXIS) project, the African Union Commission has so far extended capacity building support to facilitate the establishment of internet exchange points in 30 Member States.
With the support of the African Union Commission, the following twelve Member States have since set up their Internet Exchange Points (IXPs): Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Republic, Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Gambia, Liberia, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles and Swaziland.

BLOOMin for Independent Women

Against the backdrop of Tokyo Fashion Week, the ‘Bloomin for Independent Women’ event took place on 14 October. Following the inaugural event in March this year, which was held at the Official Residence of Ambassador Mohau Pheko of the Republic of South Africa, the newly opened Isetan Salone store in Tokyo Midtown, provided the venue.
The event is an initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in collaboration with the fashion industry and the women ambassadors accredited to Japan. It aims to promote women in the fashion industry in Japan as well as highlight the issue of menstrual pads for girls from developing countries.

Pakistan Ladies Club Pretoria carry on with charitable work

“Pakistan Ladies Club Pretoria (PLCP) is committed to work for the needy people of South Africa and Pakistan. We have started our work in a modest way and with doable objectives in mind. Our Club will continue serving the cause of humanity in the friendly country of South Africa” the Patron-in- Chief of PLCP and the spouse of Pakistan High Commissioner in South Africa, Mrs. Madiha Saqib announced at Pakistan House Pretoria while addressing the Club’s Executive Members.
The landmark meeting besides vowing to continue helping the needy people, resolved to “make a difference” in their noble pursuit by generously contributing their time and resources for the Club. The meeting took note of the extraordinary work undertaken by some of the Members and also acknowledged contributions by PLCP Members in the fund raising event held earlier in the year.
