 President Obama hails Africa’s development in a historic visit to the African Union Headquarters. “I stand before you as a proud American. I also stand before you as the son of an African” said President Obama during his address to the African Union. He summarized his personal interest in seeing Africa’s continued economic and developmental growth as it sheds a history of colonialism. Obama hailed the continent’s gains. The visit is the first by a sitting USA president to the African Union. "Although we welcome you as the President of the United States of America, we also claim you as our own”. With those words, H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, welcomed the US President H.E. Barack Hussein Obama to the AU Headquarters.

 The Maldives celebrated its 50th Anniversary of Independence on 26th July 2015.The celebrations of the island's golden jubilee of independence began on Friday night with an hour-long fireworks display at the capital Male's Republic Square. The function was witnessed by thousands, including President Abdulla Yameen, first lady Fathimath Ibrahim, and former presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Waheed Hassa.

Commemorating Mandela Day
|
The SA Oslo Mission commemorated Mandela Day on 17 July 2015 by volunteering at Salvation Army´s Lighthouse in the Norwegian capital. The Lighthouse is a safe haven and sanctuary for the city’s homeless and drug addicts where a roof over the head, food, clothes and compassion are being provided by an idealistic staff on a daily basis. Salvation Army partners with both private and public philanthropy and has brought support to the needy since 1865 by entering into the world of the hurting, broken, lonely, dispossessed and lost, reaching them in love by all means. The Oslo Mission, with Ambassador Zondo at the forefront, worked alongside the regular employees at the Lighthouse on Friday 17 July; preparing and serving of food as well as assisting with the cleaning, gardening, general maintenance and conversing with the users of the facility.
The South African Embassy in Algiers under the leadership of Ambassador Dennis T Dlomo marked International Nelson Mandela day on Wednesday, 22 July 2015. As part of the 67 minute call to action Embassy Staff and their families refurbished the playground of the Psychological Care Centre of the National Foundation for Promotion of Health and Research Development (FOREM) in Bentalha, Algiers. The Embassy has a relationship with the FOREM and also volunteered at the center on Mandela Day of 2013. This commitment shows that our actions are not only once of, but part of a broader commitment to make “every day a Mandela day”.
 On 17 July 2015 the South African Embassy in Athens joined by Aspen Greece devoted Nelson Mandela Day to the Athenian Old Age Home in order to offer companionship and joy to the elderly who long for the valuable gift of human contact.The charitable association "Athenian Old Age Home" was founded in 1864 and has since continuously provided its services in accordance with its founding charter to every distressed, particularly elderly, person. Mr Dawid du Plessis, Charge d ’Affairs a. i handed over a plaque to Mr Kerameidas, Director of the Old Age Home as a reminder of “International Nelson Mandela Day 2015”.
 Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi has encouraged South Africans to read so they can contribute to building the country. “When you read you are going to go places, when you read you gain knowledge that will build your life and by reading you discover yourself,” Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi said. She was speaking at the National Library of South Africa, in Pretoria, where she performed community service as part of the Mandela Month activities.
