Ambassador of France to South Africa, HE Elisabeth Barbier and the staff of the Embassy spent Nelson Mandela Day at Child Welfare Tshwane in Pretoria for the third year in a row.
On Friday 17 July, Ambassador Barbier and the Embassy staff spent ‪‎Mandela Day at Child Welfare Tshwane’s Risk Assessment and Drop-In Center in Sunnyside.‬
Child Welfare Tshwane’s Drop-In Center in Sunnyside caters for pre-school and school children from the area. Many of them are immigrants and refugees from African countries.

 

 

 

 

 

 

To commemorate Mandela Day, High Commissioner Gaston Barban and staff, in partnership with Hope Alive, a community-based organisation working with vulnerable groups, spent a day doing community outreach in Mamelodi West. At the Pheladi-Nakene Primary School, High Commission staff sorted donated clothing and shoes and handed them to families from the community. Entertainment was provided for the children – face painting was very popular!

 

 

 

 

 

To mark International Nelson Mandela Day, International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and members of the Diplomatic Community undertook a number of activities at the Good Hope Community Organisation and the Ya Bana Orphanage in Winterveldt, which included delivering food parcels, cooking for the children,  as well as cleaning and gardening at the orphanage. The Minister Nkoana-Mashabane also handed over a cheque to the Nelson Mandela Trust for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The South African Embassy in Tokyo served homeless people on Mandela Day.
Nelson Mandela International Day saw the opportunity for the Embassy to partner with the Tokyo Union Church in providing food to 200 homeless people. The Embassy obtained donations of canned fruit from companies selling South African products. Embassy staff also donated a variety of canned food, rice and Rooibos tea to the church kitchen. Staff members worked in the kitchen as the first group of homeless people listened to a message of hope in the church, given by a Japanese pastor. Ambassador Pheko explained the meaning of Mandela Day and gave a brief message of hope, whereafter Embassy staff sang Nkosi Siklel iAfrica to a round of applause.

 

 

 

The South African Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain and Andorra, Mr Smuts Ngonyama and Mr David Lucas, the Mayor of Móstoles Municipality situated in the south of Madrid, unveiled an official plaque of the renaming of a public park in Mostoles after Former President Nelson Mandela on 17 July 2015 as part of commemorating the International Nelson Mandela Day in Spain.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The CSIR International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC) joined the rest of the world in commemorating Nelson Mandela International day by giving its time and resources to a charity in Mamelodi, Tshwane.  Mandela Day as popularly known is a day to celebrate the late South African president, Nelson Mandela and his humanitarian work, by giving back to communities in need. The CSIR ICC strives to align itself with community initiatives that assist the youth who are our future. Child Welfare Tshwane Mamelodi is a Charity Home that offers daily balanced meals and homework support to over 160 local underprivileged children.

The Australian Business Chamber of Commerce and AFL South Africa hosted a family day to introduce South Africans to Aussie Rules. There were about 240 people from four provinces participating in the U18 and open camp.
