 What does the new African consumer look like? Where are the new opportunities? What about manufacturing, e-commerce, supply chain logistics, technology and infrastructure? These are some of the questions that were tackled at Frontier Advisory’s discussion on the African Consumer Outlook. Dr Martyn Davies, CEO of Frontier Advisory, has many accolades to his name including placing 5th at the 2014 Argus, the world’s largest individually timed cycle race. Provoking a fresh and bold thinking he moderated a panel which included Retail Analyst - Christopher Gilmour, Entrepreneur – Swaady Martin-Leke, Business Director – Dali Tembo and Marketing and Communications Director - Alisa Wingfield. Sharing their experiences it seems that many countries in Africa are realising their potential and are unlocking value of the diversity they are able to offer.

Italian Ambassador’s Perennial Trophy charity regatta

 The second Italian Ambassador’s Perennial Trophy charity regatta was held in Cape Town on Saturday, 1 November 2014. More than 30 yachts made waves in the amazing sea in front of Table Mountain. On board were sport champions, artists, businesspeople, sailing enthusiasts and, most importantly, the young African sailors from the RCYC Sailing Academy and the Izivunguvungu MSC Foundation for the Youth in Simon’s Town. Among the members of the diplomatic corps, the Ambassador of Austria, Ms Brigitte Oeppinger-Walchshofer, and the Ambassador of Israel, Mr Arthur Lenk, participated in the Regatta. The Perennial Trophy – in the words of the Italian Ambassador Vincenzo Schioppa - is a unique opportunity for further strengthening the fraternal relations between Italians and South Africans. Saving Mothers Saving Babies - Anatoli

 In the spirit of Anatoli – Ubuntu in Turkey (Anatolia) Ambassador Kaan Esener of Turkey to South Africa donated two obstetric ambulances on behalf of the people of Turkey to the people of South Africa. They were handed to the health departments of Limpopo and Gauteng respectively as an initiative in line with the Millennium Development (MDG) goals as set out by the United Nations (UN). The goals include the reduction of infant mortality and the improvement of maternal health.This state of the art obstetric ambulance is equipped with a baby delivery kit, monitors that provide vital statistics and stabilization and resuscitation equipment. A highly trained and experienced paramedic team of two and a professional driver will be able to provide the utmost care for mother and baby when the need arises. The presentation took place at Temba Clinic in Hammanskraal, Pretoria.

Joburg Ballet China Tour Showcase

 South Africa takes centre stage in the People’s Republic of China this November when Joburg Ballet tours a showcase of the best classical and contemporary dance as part of the China-South Africa Year ceremonies in Beijing, Shanghai and Liaoning Province. Joburg Ballet will showcase this dazzling touring programme for audiences at home on 8th and 9th November from 3pm to 5pm at the Joburg Ballet Studios in Braamfontein. Joburg Ballet’s visit to China in November and December celebrates the company’s growing stature as a major South African arts institution, acknowledging Joburg Ballet’s expanding role nationally and internationally. Joburg Ballet’s international travel has amplified the company’s global footprint with dancers currently performing in Denmark, Ireland, Cuba and soon China, cementing Joburg Ballet’s place as a world class African ballet company. | SA scoops tourism awards in London |
There was great excitement all around as three South African hospitality facilities became the proud recipients of awards at the World Responsible Tourism Awards in London, on Wednesday.
“These awards are significant for the entire Tourism industry in South Africa. It shows that South Africa is taking its place as a world leader in responsible tourism,” Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom said.
