Fortune favours the brave
|
When Mr Soichiro Honda, a Japanese engineer and industrialist, set up his business in 1948 did he know that Honda would develop into a world renowned brand synonymous with motorcycles, cars and even boats among others?
He, as with many other brave Japanese innovators and entrepreneurs, created multinational businesses that more than monetary success, can be credited with developing technologies that required new skills and education and led to a plethora of dynamic employment opportunities and life long careers.
The time for courage is now, is the impression created by the seminar, ‘Local Industrialization in South Africa and the Contribution of Japanese Businesses – Lessons from the Far East’ hosted at the Gordon Institute for Business Sciences (GIBS) by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Jumeirah Group appoints Aboudi Asali to head MEASA Development Team
Dubai, 29 September 2014: Jumeirah Group, the global luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, has appointed Aboudi Asali as Senior Vice President Development for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. Mr. Asali takes up the leadership of the MEASA development team from Cherif Hosny, who left the company in August 2014.

Greece and South Africa sign MoU
|
 International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and the Greek Ambassador to South Africa, Ms Maria Diamantopoulou, signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations and Cooperation between the Governments of the Hellenic Republic and the Government of the Republic of South Africa”
The purpose of the MoU is to establish a structured framework for cooperation and coordination that regulates meetings and consultations between the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.

Jamaican and South African Poet Laureates share stage for democracy and Diplomacy

 South Africans and Jamaicans in Pretoria were treated to a symbolic and historic event as Poet Laureates of Jamaica and South Africa, Professor Mervyn Morris and Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile respectively, shared the stage at the National Library of South Africa at a Poetry Reading in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy as well as 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and South Africa.
This was the first time such an event was being held and the Poet Laureates delivered to a captive and appreciative audience of over 100. Among Professor Kgositsile’s selections were “No Serenity Here”, “No Boundaries” and “Letter from Havana”. Among Professor Morris’ readings were “Give Thanks”, “Connection” and “The Day My Father Died”.
In his remarks, Acting High Commissioner of Jamaica, John Clarke noted that the advent of democracy in South Africa in April 1994 was the outcome of a struggle with which the government and people of Jamaica strongly empathized and supported. In that regard, he observed that the outcome formed the basis on which Jamaica and South Africa also established diplomatic relations in September of the same year.
