The ambitious youth population in Africa combined with innovative information and communication technology and the Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN) is a potent formula to trigger the quantum leap in Africa’s development.
The aim of the recent AAUN Forum and Steering Group Meeting held at the University of Pretoria (UP) in South Africa on 5-6 April 2014 was to create a proactive network for higher education institutes of Australia and Africa.
Co-chairs of the event, Vice Chancellor Cheryl de la Rey of UP and Chief Executive John Hearn of Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), emphasized the need for meaningful, relevant and results-focussed research in core projects that would draw the attention of funding institutes, agencies and the private sector.
Principal of Soshanguve High School, Victoria Ledwaba, expressed her joy and appreciation to the High Commission of India in South Africa after High Commissioner Virendra Gupta, visited the school and undertook to launch educational outreach programmes in partnership with the school’s national curriculum.
Ledwaba said due to the fact that the school’s matric pass rate has been consistent on 60% and above over the past years proves that the High Commissioner’s visit was an indicator that hard work among both teachers and pupils is bearing fruit. “ I am humbled and excited about the High Commissioner Gupta’s visit to our school,” she said. “We are excited and blessed that among many schools in South Africa our school was chosen to be part of the high commission’s educational outreach programs,” Ledwaba said.
