| Texas and South Africa in Business |
 The Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) and Houston Mayor Annise Parker lead a delegation of elected officials, top business leaders and industry officials to South Africa in February.
“There is great potential to strengthen the economic ties between us, especially in the energy sector said Mayor Parker at a press briefing at the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GDDA) in Johannesburg.
Accompanying the Mayor were Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis (Democrat – Houston), Vice President of International Investment and Trade Genaro Pena and Houston Airport System Director Mario Diaz.
Energy, aviation and real estate were discussed at a “Doing Business in Houston” seminar for South African business. “Our economy is diverse and robust, and it matches up well with the types of industries that South African entrepreneurs and business people are pursuing,” said Peña. "Houston is a top U.S. city in several industries including energy, medical, transportation and manufacturing.”
Sri Lanka
On the occasion of the 66th Independence Day of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mr. Shehan Ratnavale, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and Mrs. Dhanya Ratnavale hosted a reception in Pretoria. The guest of honor at the reception was Mr. Mduduzi Manana, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training of SA. The Elephant Foot Drummers from Sri Lanka entertained guests.
Thailand Armed Forces Day
 The Defence Attache of Thailand to South Africa, Colonel Kultawat Vaijai and his wife Mrs Runjana Vaijai (centre) hosted a reception on 31 January 2014 in celebration of Thailand Armed Forces Day. | Maldives - Sri Lanka to expand cooperation |
 President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the visiting President of the Maldives Abdullah Yameen agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in many fields including trade, economy, banking and finance, fisheries, agriculture, education, defence and maritime and culture. Dr Senaratne also urged the Maldivian side to purchase boats from Sri Lanka as the boat industries in this country has made rapid progress. Prof. Peris pointed out that the Seychelles has highly commended the Sri Lankan boat and shipping industry and agreed to place orders for their requirement of all boats and small ships to Sri Lankan firms.
