Happy Chinese New Year
The Embassy of China in Pretoria hosted a Temple Fair celebrating the Chinese New Year, the year of the Horse, on 18 January in Joburg. Ambassador TIAN Xuejun of China (pictured) welcomed guests to the celebration. Traditional Chinese dancing, music, clothes and food marked the occasion.

Australian Business Chamber of Commerce inaugurated

South Africa’s Minister of Mineral Resources, the Hon Susan Shabangu, was the guest of honour at the inauguration of the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa) (ABCSA). The inauguration coincided with the ‘Australia Day’ celebrations hosted by the Australian High Commissioner, HE Mr Graeme Wilson, on 27 January 2014.
“The ABCSA will be a not for profit organisation with a broad membership including multinational companies, SMEs and individuals. ABCSA will draw on the large number of Australian mining companies that have business interests in southern Africa, as well as a range of businesses in other sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and education. Businesses based in southern Africa with interests in Australia will also be welcome to join”, said Mr Wilson at the inauguration.

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in South Africa handed over kickboxing equipment to the Mamelodi Kickboxing Club on 28 January 2013. The donation of kickboxing sports goods and clothing to the amount of R55000 (fifty five thousand rand) took place at the Stanza Bopape Community Development Centre in Mamelodi.

SA students win awards at 10th IMSO in Manila

South African Mathematics and Science Students participated in the 10th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) for primary school students held in Royal Tagaytay Country Club in Cavite, Philippines. This competition was held from 25-29 November 2013. The Group was led by Dr Beverly Evangelides, the National Academics Coordinator of AdvTech Schools Division.
