India - the next emerging Superpower of Asia

Every year since 1950 the Republic Day of India is commemorated on January 26 in a patriotic spirit by more than a billion people living in the twenty eight States and seven Union territories throughout India. Hoisting the Indian tricolor flag with a guard of honor by the Indian Armed forces and singing of ‘Jana Gana Mana’, the inspirational national anthem composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and remembering the makers of Modern India, Mohandas Gandhi (Gandhiji ) the father of the Nation, Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India, all martyrs of the Indian Independence movement, starts of the Republic Day in a festive theme in the country.
Today India has made significant strides both in economic growth, social development and is an emerging superpower playing a leading role in global political issues. The country has successfully integrated into a global economy and widened its horizon in a number of sectors after gaining Independence from the British Raj on 15 August 1947.

Seminar on doing business with South Africa held in Uruguay

The Uruguayan-African Chamber of Commerce (CCUA) and the South African Embassy in Montevideo co-hosted a seminar entitled “Business with South Africa: Opportunities and Challenges”. Two of the speakers had recently returned from South Africa on a business/fact-finding mission.
Selected CCUA members as well as HE Sami Salem, Egyptian Ambassador; Prof Edgardo Ortuño, Deputy-Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining; Ambassador Luis Bermudez, former Uruguayan Ambassador to South Africa; and other relevant Uruguayan authorities attended this event.
The Head of Mission, Ms Ellen M Hajie, welcomed the guests and in her opening remarks referred to the importance of further increasing trade between Uruguay and South Africa as well as with the rest of Africa, using South Africa as a hub.

Japan’s Diplomacy towards Africa: Strengthening Each Individual, One by One
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited three African countries, namely Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique and Ethiopia, from 10th to 14th January, 2014. During his trip, he delivered a policy speech on Japan-Africa relations at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa on 14 January 2014. The speech is entitled “Japan’s Diplomacy towards Africa: Strengthening Each Individual, One by One”.
In the speech, he announced that Japan will double Yen Loans to Private Sector Assistance Africa, or EPSA, created jointly with the African Development Bank, to 2 billion US dollars from 2012 to 2016.
He also explained Japanese companies’ philosophy and stated that Japanese companies seek to elicit ingenuity by enhancing the competency of each individual. In this connection, he referred to the idea of promoting in Africa a kaizen approach, a managerial concept which made bottom-up initiatives contribute a great deal in many Japanese companies.
