Mother Africa in our culture - Venezuela

Venezuelan musicians Leonard Jacome - harpist and Darwin Guevara - cuatrista performed at the Miriam Makeba concert hall at the University of South Africa. They were joined by South African musicians in a collaboration that united the continents of South America and Africa. The Camac electrict harp played by Jacome was a first for South African audiences. The cuatro played by Guevara is regarded as the national instrument of Venezuela.
Ambassador Mairin Moreno Merida of Venezuela to South Africa also joined in with an accomplished vocal performance of Alma Bolivariana.
The fusion of South African music by Roland Moses - pianist, Mangeshen Naidoo - guitarist, Mark Dube - base, Godfrey Mokoena - drums and Karendra Devroop - saxophonist reflected the strong influence of Africa in the Americas.

Indian Housing Project

External Affairs Minister of India Shri Salman Khurshid at the Ceremony for Distribution of Certificates to Beneficiaries of the Indian Housing Project and Small Business Enterprises in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka at Jaffna. Speaking at the ceremony Minister Kurshid said, "I am happy to note that this is the largest grant assistance project undertaken by the Government of India in any part of the world. Having completed 1000 houses under the Pilot Project, nearly 16,000 houses are under various stages of construction in the 2ndPhase of the Indian Housing Project. It is expected that our commitment to construct all the 50,000 houses would be fulfilled before the end of 2015."

South African Cuban School Makes History

Joburg Ballet’s initiative to create the South African Cuban School has developed into a centre of excellence for preparing dancers for the professional stage. This institution makes history as the first South Africans complete their assessments over the next week under the examination of the Director of The National Ballet School of Cuba, Dr. Ramona de Saá, one of the leading international figures in ballet training.
This project was launched by Dirk Badenhorst in partnership with Cuban ballet, continuing and strengthening the dance ties with Cuba, Dirk Badenhorst initiated in 2008 and which has played an increasing central role in ballet in SA over the last five years.

South Africa wins at FISAHARA

South Africa took part in the Western Sahara International Film Festival (FISAHARA). The Film festival now in its 10th year took place in the most remote refugee camp of Dakhla in the Algerian desert. The South African Film Mayibuye i Western Sahara produced by Milly Moabi explores the history of solidarity between South Africa and Western Sahara and draw parallels between their respective struggles for freedom, Mayibuye i Western Sahara won the first prize at the festival.
