China believes in South Africa
 15 Years of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and South Africa is a milestone to reflect upon and to plot the way forward. The current evolution in the order of the world has created a dynamic space for these relations to take that quantum leap.
“The ball is firmly in South Africa’s court,” said Ambassador Anil Sooklal, Deputy Director General at the Department of International Relations (DIRCO) South Africa. He explained the multi-level cooperation and collaboration with China pointing out that after 15 years the foundation has been laid to craft a relation of mutual trust with the emphasis on the quality of the relationship.
Ambassador Sooklal was speaking at the Ambassadorial Forum to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of South Africa – China Diplomatic Relations at the OR Tambo Building in Pretoria hosted by the Embassy of China in South Africa and the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA).

A Velvet Divorce - Czech Slovakia 20 years on
 The amicable negotiated split between the former Soviet Bloc country Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia has gone largely unnoticed by the world’s mass media whose focus on conflict and war has created a somewhat unbalanced perspective.
The peaceful coexistence between these nations for the past twenty years has been termed the Velvet Divorce when describing the dissolution of Czechoslovakia which came into effect on 1 January 1993.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989 the countries began on a path of political and economic transformation and are today regarded as exemplary in peaceful conflict resolution. They are fully integrated members of the European Union, NATO and OECD and enjoy very close and friendly relations.
This milestone coincides with 20 years of diplomatic relations with South Africa. In honour of this momentous occasion the Czech and Slovak Embassies in South Africa together with the University of Pretoria hosted a panel discussion to better understand the peaceful separation between the two countries.
Athens: South African Heritage Day celebration
The South African Embassy in Greece celebrated Heritage Day with the theme “Reclaiming, Restoring and celebrating South African heritage” on Thursday, 12 September 2013 by remembering the heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Ambassador Makgetla and the Guest Speaker: Ms Luli Callinicos, gave emphasis on South Africa, the “Rainbow Nation”, with its 11 official languages. South African music is characterised by its fusion of diverse musical forms while South African dance is unique in its vitality and energy. South Africa’s very rich culinary tradition and its renowned fine wines from the Western Cape make South Africa unique among other nations.
JICA welcomes new Mission Head
Mr Hiroyuki Kinomoto has been newly assigned as Chief Representative of the South African branch office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with its Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Mr Kinomoto arrived in South Africa on 1 August 2013, and officially took over the reins on 9 August 2013 for a provisional three-year assignment. Mr Kinomoto is no stranger to Africa. In fact, during his career at JICA spanning 28 years to date, he has visited more than 20 African countries. From 2001 to 2005, whilst the Tanzanian Government was striving for the realisation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) along with development partners including JICA, Mr Kinomoto held the position of Deputy Resident Representative at the JICA Tanzania Office. Prior to his current assignment in South Africa, he was Deputy Managing Director for Budget at the JICA Headquarters. Mr Kinomoto is pleased that his wish for returning to Africa has been fulfilled, and he is very eager to further contribute to the development of Southern Africa.
