Reconciliation Rugby

It takes Maria Elana Martinez Quinto (18) and Christian David Rodallegos Valencio (17) of Apartado, Colombia to remind South Africans of the achievements they have made in reconciliation from a brutal, violent, divided past and not to allow anybody to divide and exploit them ever again.
Maria and Christian are youth rugby players from Colombia who are in South Africa for a Rugby Life Skills program. The Comprehensive Plan for Prevention 20+ (PIPO20+) is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia under the leadership of Minister Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar.
Rugby was found to be an effective mechanism to transform these vulnerable young lives affected by violence. Rugby through exchanges of best practice, visits and conferences brought about opportunities for their human and sporting development.

They also met the Colombian youth rugby players who are on a Rugby Life Skills Training program at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. (see above).

African Development Bank Seminar - Avoiding the Resource Curse Paradox

Ewart Williams of Trinidad and Tobago inaugurated the African Development Bank (ADB) seminar series for Southern Africa in Centurion, Pretoria on March 4 2013.
His topic ‘Avoiding the Resource Curse Paradox – Experiences of Trinidad and Tobago’ was appropriate as many African countries are discovering energy resources in their countries.
Trinidad & Tobago has the second highest per capita income in the Americas, second only to the United States of America (USA). Its economy is driven by natural gas and petro-chemical exports. Its social indicators still lag behind according to some reports as pockets of poverty still exist.
