‘So Sri Lanka’ promoted in South Africa

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pretoria with the support of the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau organized a "So Sri Lanka” Tourism Exhibition in Menlyn from 20th to 25th March 2019. It was the first ever Sri Lanka Tourism Promotional Campaign that took place in South Africa.  

The Exhibition  was launched on the 20th March 2019, and  Bangladesh High Commissioner H.E. Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, Pakistan High Commissioner H.E. Sohail Khan, Georgian Ambassador H.E. Beka Dvali and Sri Lankan High Commissioner H.E. Kumar Mallimaratchi participated as the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour at the Launch.

At the invitation by HE Kumar Mallimaratchi, on the 21st March, the Sri Lankan Cricket ODI and T20 Captain Lasith Malinga with Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Niroshan Dikwella, Angelo Perera along with Manager Mr. Jerry Woutersz, Selector on Tour Brendon Kuruppu, Bowling Coach Rumesh Ratnayake and ex Sri Lankan player and commentator Russel Arnold visited the exhibition as the Guests of Honour.

 

 

The arrival of the cricketers attracted a great number of visitors to the venue, and they had the opportunity to interact with the cricketers and other VIPs.

With the objective of creating awareness and promoting Sri Lanka as a tourist and travel destination among South Africans, the Exhibition showcased the visual impact of the beauty of the country, and  “So Sri Lanka” themes of several aspects of culture and tourism that Sri Lanka has to offer to the world. Shoppers took time out to interact with the exhibition and hopefully add this beautiful destination to their bucket lists.

The visitors were also given the opportunity to participate in a draw and win memorable gifts such as a cap signed by the Sri Lankan Cricketers and Ceylon tea gifts etc. The information counter at the venue provided clarification, and disseminated information and tourism brochures to the visitors.

The event was coordinated by Mr. Kapila J. Kumara, First Secretary – Commercial with the assistance of Ms. Madubhani Perera, Director Marketing and Ms. Inoka Gayathri, Junior Manager of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
