Banyana Banyana’s Smeda joins Swedish Vittsjo GIK

The Swedish Embassy in South Africa hosted a reception in Cape Town on February 19 and had the pleasure to make it a send off for Bamyana Banyana's Leandra Smeda, who will start playing for the Swedish team Vittsjo.

The reception was attended by the Swedish EU-Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström, the Deputy Mayor of Cape Town Ian Neilson and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Lechesa Tsenoli.

 

Smeda got her first call up to the South African national team in 2010 after being spotted at the 2009 USSA club championships in Mafikeng. She moved to Lithuania where she made a name for herself after netting in the Uefa Women's Champions League playing for FK Gintra-Universitetas.
