Courtney House International learners recognised among the world's best

18 May 2026
In an era of rapid global change, there has never been a more exciting time to be a young person with the knowledge, skills and ambition to meet the world on its own terms. At Courtney House International School, that promise is not left to chance, it is built – deliberately and measurably – into everything the school does. And the results speak for themselves.
Three learners from the school have been named recipients of Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for 2025 – amongst the most rigorous and internationally respected forms of academic recognition available to school-aged learners anywhere in the world.
Administered by Cambridge International Education across more than 160 countries and 10 000 schools, the awards identify exceptional performance in Cambridge IGCSE and Advanced Level examinations. To receive one is to be placed amongst a small cohort of high achievers on a global stage, young people whose performance has been measured not against a local or national benchmark, but against the full breadth of international academic endeavour. A total of four awards were awarded to the school by Cambridge International Education.
Anthony Edwards, Curriculum Executive, Curro, said: ‘These achievements reflect far more than academic ability alone. They are the result of curiosity, discipline, perseverance and a genuine commitment to learning – qualities that have earned our learner’s recognition on the global stage.’
Alvin Munanda, honoured at this year’s Curro Matric Gala Awards, achieved a double award: Top in South Africa for Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) Geography in the November 2025 examinations, and First Place in South Africa overall for Cambridge IGCSE Best Across Eight Subjects in the same exam series. The extent of Munanda’s achievement speaks to something beyond academic aptitude; it reflects the kind of disciplined, purposeful learning that recognises truly outstanding young learners. Alvin has since continued his studies at Courtney House, now working towards his AS/A-Level qualifications.
Terry Mabuni is a learner who defies easy categorisation. Already recognised as a Curro Create AMP recipient – a select mentorship programme pairing exceptionally talented young creatives with industry professional mentors, and one of the most respected accolades within Curro's creative programme – Mabuni has now shown that his gifts extend well beyond the arts. His High Achievement Award for French Language at AS Level in the June 2025 examination is a mark of a learner who brings the same curiosity, discipline and depth to academic pursuit as he does to creative endeavour. Terry is currently studying Electrical Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
Camilla Moeletsi earned Top in South Africa for Cambridge AS-Level Business in the June 2025 examinations. She is currently pursuing a degree in Actuarial Sciences at the University of Johannesburg.
These results matter beyond the certificates themselves. Cambridge qualifications are recognised and valued by leading universities worldwide precisely because they demand not rote recall, but genuine understanding, critical reasoning and intellectual rigour. When a learner excels in this framework, it signals readiness for the world beyond school, not merely readiness for further study.
Dimitra Bailanis, Executive Head of Courtney House International School, spoke with evident pride. ‘Congratulations to Alvin, Terry and Camilla, it is truly heartwarming to witness achievements of this calibre. I am immensely proud of our learners and of what our school represents: a place where an exceptional Cambridge curriculum, highly experienced and deeply committed teachers, and focused, academically minded learners come together to produce exactly this kind of success. These young men and women are a source of great joy to all of us.’
Joe Labuschagne, Curriculum Head for Cambridge at Curro, offered a perspective that speaks to the broader purpose behind such recognition. ‘These honours are a testament to a commitment to excellence, intellectual curiosity and resilience, and a reflection of the collective belief that high standards and purpose-driven learning open doors to global opportunity.’
Part of the Curro Select Schools group, Courtney House International School has spent more than thirty years shaping confident, capable young people through an approach that values both academic excellence and holistic development. Here, achievement is never regarded as an endpoint, but as evidence of what becomes possible when learners are nurtured with care, ambition and a deep commitment to their broader growth.
