Welcome to South Africa, a nation of profound historical significance and remarkable transformation. As you step onto the soil of this vibrant continent, you become part of a narrative of resilience, reconciliation, and progress.

Thirty years since the end of apartheid, South Africa stands as an inspiration to the world. The journey from the shackles of colonialism and the inhumanity of Apartheid to the dawn of democracy has been arduous, but the spirit of the South African people has never wavered and neither has their resolve and determination to forge a future of equality, justice, and opportunity for all.

You arrive at a momentous time in a country that is not only celebrating 30 years of its freedom, but will also be holding its 7th general elections as a constitutional democracy.

As you embark on your diplomatic mission in Pretoria, the City of Tshwane, you join a diverse community of over 130 bilateral diplomatic missions, many of who serve the wider SADC region. Here, amidst the diplomatic hub of the African continent, you will witness firsthand the power of dialogue, cooperation, and diplomacy in addressing the complex challenges of our time. However, remember to include time off in your schedule to indulge in the natural abundant beauty of this majestic continent and to engage with its people in the land known as the cradle of humankind.

South Africa's active involvement in regional and international forums, including the African Union, BRICS, G20, which it chairs next year, and IORA, amongst others, highlights its commitment to advancing peace, security, and development on the continent and beyond. The wealth of diplomatic knowledge, experience, and networks available to you will serve as invaluable resources as you navigate the intricacies of international relations in this dynamic geopolitical landscape.

On behalf of The Diplomatic Society, we extend our warmest welcome to you and wish you a successful and fulfilling posting in South Africa. May your time here be marked by fruitful collaboration, meaningful engagement, and lasting friendships as we work together towards a better future for all.
