A nation's identity often resonates through its culinary heritage, and for Vietnam, this cultural emblem is undeniably embodied in Pho. Recognizing its significance, Vietnam officially designates December 12th as the Day of Pho, honoring the country's iconic dish.
In a vibrant celebration, the Vietnam Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa organised Pho Day at the bustling Hazelwood Food Market, drawing a diverse crowd of locals and international visitors. This cultural exchange became a platform for locals who had journeyed to Vietnam to relish authentic Pho in their own backyard. Equally, it captured the hearts of South Africans unfamiliar with the Southeast Asian nation, sparking an interest and desire to explore that part of the world.

The event showcased traditional Vietnamese beef and chicken Pho alongside fried spring rolls and Vietnam's famed coffee. Culinary enthusiasts eagerly embraced the opportunity as the chefs graciously shared their recipes. A wide array of Vietnamese products including rice, broth, rice paper, and coffee were exhibited, providing a glimpse into Vietnam's rich culinary offerings.

Pho Day marked the culmination of a series of activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Africa fostering cultural understanding and strengthening ties through the shared appreciation of gastronomic delights.
