SATMA honours Traditional Leaders

Kgosi Kgolo Mampuru of the Pedi Kingdom was honored with the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) on 26 March 2022 at Mamone in Jane Furse, Limpopo for his role in colonial resistance which led to his death by hanging at Pretoria Prison on 22 November 1883.

Delivering messages of support included the CEO of Freedom Park,Jane Mufamadi; Princess Stella Sigcau II of the Mpondo Kingdom; Princess Tshepiso Motloung on behalf of the South African Royal Princesses Network; Roads, Infrastructure and Public Works MEC Namane Masemola, Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor, Julia Mathebe Makhuduthamaga and Local Municipality Mayor, Minah Bahula. The key note address was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Correctional Services Nkosi Phathekile Holomisa.

The important but underplayed role played by traditional leaders in the liberation struggle and in the colonial resistance was echoed by various speakers.

SATMA, founded by Mr Dumisani Goba, celebrates traditional music, honours traditional artists and seeks to preserve and promote culture and heritage through these awards.
