Muay Thai in Mamelodi

Over the past five years the Embassy of Thailand in South Africa has sponsored several Muay Thai/Kick Boxers to experience the Thai Martial Arts in Thailand. The Launch of the Kasi Muay Thai Camp in Mamelodi, City of Tshwane in January is a clear indication that the efforts by the Embassy has led to a growing interest and participation in the sport. {besps}stories/MuayThai|width=350|height=300|align=3{/besps}

At the launch Ambassador Viravakin of Thailand was pleased that South African youth were involved in a sport which is about self-discipline, health, fitness and self-defence. He described the sport as character building as it will also have a positive influence in other aspects of the youngsters lives. The Embassy donated gloves, mats, punching and kicking bags and other equipment.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Nozipho Tyobeka Makeke for Sport and Recreation thanked the Embassy and the Thai government for their contribution to the first phase of this project giving assurances that the initiative will have the continued support of the City of Tshwane.

Mpho Letsoalo and Kru Yai Mario Da Silva, President and Head Coach of Muay Thai Boran South Africa were keen to increase the membership as they have experienced first-hand the difference the discipline and training in the martial arts has made in many young South African lives.
