NATIONAL DAY OF MALAYSIA 

High Commissioner of Malaysia to South Africa, Kennedy Jawan, held a reception on 14 September 2011 at Malaysia House in Pretoria to celebrate Malaysia's 54th National Day. Malaysia's Independence Day fell on 31 August but the celebration was deferred as the day coincided with the first day of Eid Mubarak.In his speech he spoke about Malaysia's history and its freedom, its economic policy that resulted in economic growth, its postion at an international level and Malaysia - South Africa relations

 NATIONAL DAY OF MEXICO

   
Ambassador Hector Valezzi of Mexico to South Africa celebrated the  Mexican National Day in Pretoria, South Africa on September 15, 2011. A Mariachi band entertained guests and added to the vibrant atmosphere of the evening. In his remarks Ambassador Valezzi said that "the Government of President Felipe Calderón has the goal of bringing more Mexico to the world and more world  into Mexico."
He noted that the Mexican and South African governments were working together on climate change matters and was sure that there would be a positive outcome to the COP17 taking place in Durban, South Africa in November this year.
Of Mexican South African relations he said, "Political dialogue is constant, and cooperation in the areas of trade, science, technology, education and culture are being strengthened. Right now both governments are working on the Action Plan Mexico-South Africa towards a Priority Relationship."

NATIONAL DAY OF CHILE

  
 Ambassador Francisco Marambio of Chile to South Africa hosted a National Day reception on 16 September 2011 in Pretoria. He said, "This year, we would like to commemorate the remarkable rescue of the 32 Chilean miners and one Bolivian miner, who were trapped underground, almost 700 metres below the earth’s surface, for 50 days. This rescue mission brought about a sense of national unity amongst Chileans and captured the world’s attention." Ambassador Marambio also outlined the cultural programme that began on September 13 with the screening of the epic Chilean film Subterra. Guests tantalized their tastebuds with the very best of Chilean cuisine prepared by three visiting Chilean Chef

DANCE WITHOUT BORDERS

 
A multinational group of Ballet artists will produce and perform the world renowned ballet Don Quixote. The Cuban/South African collaboration will include dancers from the USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland as well as South Africa and Cuba. This picture, taken at the rehearsals at the Dance Factory in Jo’burg, are of the dancers, officials of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, Mzanzi Productions and a senior professor at the National Ballet School of Cuba.

Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau has introduced an extensive participatory programme namely “Joburg Growth and Development Strategy 2040".
This programme was launched on 2 August 2011 and since 9 August has rolling out thematic weeks.
During the Governance Thematic week, Executive Mayor TAU and the new Members of the Mayoral Committee was introduced to the diplomatic corps.
