SA students win awards at 10th IMSO in Manila

South African Mathematics and Science Students participated in the 10th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) for primary school students held in Royal Tagaytay Country Club in Cavite, Philippines. This competition was held from 25-29 November 2013. The Group was led by Dr Beverly Evangelides, the National Academics Coordinator of AdvTech Schools Division.

The following countries who participated in this event include Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand; Kazakhstan and the Philippines.  Ambassador Nyamande-Pitso and Ms Ellen Vega, the Information Officer at the South African Embassy in the Philippines, attended the closing and award ceremonies on 28 November 2013 at SM Aura Premier in Taguig City.  This was a good opportunity for the young students to interact with their peers from Asia and learn about their culture as this was also part of enriching their life experiences.

South Africa won three bronze medals for the Maths category; two silver and nine bronze medals for the Science category.  They surely held the South Africa flag high and made us proud.  This was a good opportunity for exposing the young students to similar events in order to broaden their knowledge and outlook on life over and above their scholastic achievements.
