The Paramount Group hosted the inaugural kickboxing championship between South Africa and Azerbaijan that was held at the Transnet Engineering Boxing Academy in Pretoria, South Africa on August 30.

The event saw the coming together of the South Africa Amateur Kickboxing Association (SAAKA) with the Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation (AKF). Both are affiliates of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO).

“There are currently 87 clubs from every Province in South Africa and growing due to excellent internal structures,” said SAAKA President Pat Carney, “and we will gain more experience through this inaugural championship which has World Champions from Azerbaijan participating.”

Eduard Mammadov from Baku, nicknamed the "White Wolf" and the current fourteen times WAKO World Heavyweight Low Kick Champion and the European World Kickboxing Heavyweight Champion, was part of the team that took on the SA National team which has several National and Provincial Champions.

The event was held in honour of the 90th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, often presented as “Father of the Azeri nation”. He is credited with the revival of all spheres of Azeri society, always proud of the country’s rich culture and heritage with a focus on the future generations.
