Vietnam National Day celebrated in Colombo


The Vietnam Embassy in Sri Lanka held a banquet in Colombo to celebrate the 68th Anniversary of Independence.

Hon. P. Dayaratne, Minister of Food Security and many Sri Lankan government ministry officials, members of the diplomatic Corps and numerous Sri Lankan friends, officials, embassy staff and

Vietnamese people living and studying in Sri Lanka attended the reception.

Speaking at the reception, Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh highlighted the historical significance dated 09.02.1945 for the people of Vietnam and the great achievements of the Vietnamese people since independence.

Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh was glad to see the relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka growing strongly in many areas, and especially appreciated the progress of the Vietnam Project Technical Assistance on Development of aquaculture for Sri Lanka, as well as the Ho Chi Minh monument construction project in Colombo.

Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh believeđ that the cultural similarities and the long history of relations between the two countries, along with the rich potential of each nation, would be favorable to further expand friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Minister P. Dayaratne expressed admiration for the struggle for national liberation and the great achievements in national reconstruction in Vietnam post-war period. He believed that the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries would increasingly consolidate and develop for the interests of the two peoples, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and in world.


On this occasion, the Embassy invited 15 artists and a few enterprises from Vietnam to participate in the cultural performances in the capital Colombo and some other major cities of Sri Lanka from 30 August to 6 September. A meeting for businesses interaction was held on 29 August.


Within the framework of the National Day celebration, the Embassy in collaboration with the Taj Samudra Hotel organized a "Vietnam Food Festival" with the participation of chefs and musicians from Vietnam.
