UN Mandela Day in Pretoria

 

Activities organised by the United Nations in Pretoria, South Africa to commemmorate Mandela Day


The UN Communications Group–South Africa, lead by UNIC Pretoria and supported by UNHCR, mobilised a group of 70 UN staff members who volunteered at the Divine Grace Creche and Pre-School in Pretoria on Mandela International Day, 18 July. With the support of UNHCR, the crèche was started by a refugee woman in 2008 and currently accommodates 170 children, including refugee and South African children.


The UN Communications Group-South Africa, led by UNIC Pretoria, organized the screening of a UN Television/PBS documentary film “I Live to Sing” at Cinema Nouveau, Brooklyn, Pretoria on 18 July 2013. Over 150 guests ranging from UN staff members, the diplomatic community, development partners, research institutions and academia attended the screening


 

The UN Communications Group–South Africa, lead by UNIC Pretoria mobilised a team of ten UN staff members who participated in the 67KM Relay for Mandela International Day in Sunninghill, Johannesburg on 14 July 2013. The event was organized by Kaya FM Radio and the Nelson Mandela Foundation with over 10,000 runners having participated.
