Iraqi Embassy in SA hosts Human Rights Delegation Visiting South Africa


The Iraqi Embassy in Pretoria hosted a dinner on 27 April 2013 for His Excellency Hussein Zuhairi, Deputy Minister of Human Rights in Iraq, and the accompanying delegation. Also present at the dinner were heads of Arab Diplomatic Missions, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran and a number of representatives from government departments and NGOs in South Africa in addition to media representatives.
The Deputy Minister opened proceedings with a speech that touched on the international Compact with Iraq launched by the Iraqi government to forge new relations with its global partners that will bring about a unified, federal and democratic state where security and stability prevail.
The Acting Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps, Sudanese Ambassador to South Africa Dr. Ali Yousif also delivered a speech in which he welcomed the visiting guests and praised the establishment of the Human Rights Ministry in Iraq after the violations that took place during the previous regime.
Iraqi Ambassador to South Africa Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi spoke about the changes Iraq witnessed over the past decade after the fall of the previous regime and touched upon some growth figures in different sectors in Iraq, Iraq’s increasing role in the region, improvements in security and political environments and bilateral ties with South Africa emphasizing the significance of the country as it possesses many similarities with Iraq and has a rich democratic experience.
