Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso flanked by Ms. Madel de Guzman (Aerotel), Mr. Patrick Seboko, Mr. Kuberin Packirisamy and Mr. Johann van Schalkwyk (Northern Cape Delegation) at the South Africa Booth celebrating the 3rd place for Best Decorated Booth award.

The 20th TravelTour Expo was held at the Manila SMX Convention Center from 15-17 February 2013.  This was a very competitive event, with local, regional and international participants showcasing their travel and hospitality industries. This year, the Embassy collaborated with South African Airways (Aerotel) and the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism.  In addition to the general public, the local travel agents/operators were targeted and a tourism seminar was organised to address the needs and concerns of this sector with regards to the promoting South Africa as an exciting tourist destination.

Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso flanked by the Angolan Honorary Consul Helen Ong, Mr. Patrick Seboko, Mr. Kuberin Packirisamy, Mr. Johann van Schalkwyk, Mr. Conrad Mouton (Northern Cape) and Angolan Charge d’Affaires, Mr. Fernando Miguel at the Opening Ceremonies of the 20th TravelTour Expo.

The Northern Cape participation enabled the South African booth to be elegantly designed to highlight scenic areas and typical sporting activities thus clinching of the 3rd price.  Further, participation included a live music performance by singer Baby M. Consequently, Aerotel managed to sell tour packages on the spot while the tour operators and agencies requested assistance from the Northern Cape Province in packaging trips that would satisfy their client’s appetite for Safari, Culture and Shopping adventures.

As a spin-off from this Expo, The Northern Cape delegation, led by Mr Seboko, met with the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) to identify areas of cooperation and also with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and there was ‘in principle’ agreement that there exists areas of synergy between the two countries and that skill/knowledge exchanges in heritage tourism and data digitalisation were possible.  As a follow-up to the travel tour participation, Ms Christine Cunanan will be visiting South Africa to cover the tourism highlights of the Northern Cape Province for publication in her TraveLife Magazine, TV and radio in September 2013.  Further, the Mission and the Northern Cape Province in collaboration with Aerotel will organise a familiarisation tour to South Africa for travel tour agents/operators.
