BNC established between South Africa and Botswana

The staff of the South African High Commission in Gaborone, Botswana hosted the End of the Year and Farewell Party for High Commissioner Lenin Shope (Centre). A seasoned diplomat with postings in Cuba, Italy, Australia and most recently Botswana. High Commissioner Shope has served in the South African diplomatic service for many years with diligence and distinction. He is seen here with transferred and locally recruited staff, shaking hands with Mr Mthembisi Mjikeliso (Left), current Chargé d’Affaires and Mr Nelis Strydom (Right), Corporate Services Manager presenting him with a token of appreciation from the Mission.

The High Commissioner has since reported back to the DIRCO Head Office in Pretoria following his successful diplomatic term in Botswana. Delivering farewell words on behalf of the Mission personnel, the Acting High Commissioner applauded the departing High Commissioner for his dedication and contribution he made as a leader over the past years highlighting the establishment of the epic Bi-National Commission of Cooperation that was entered into on 30 August 2012 between the Republics of South Africa and Botswana. He wished him good luck in his future endeavours.
