Industrial Development Zone at Saldhana Bay

MINISTER DAVIES TO ADDRESS LAUNCH OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION PROCESS FOR THE DESIGNATION OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT ZONE AT SALDANHA BAY

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will deliver a keynote address at a Media Launch of the sixty-day public consultation period for the designation of an Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) in Saldanha Bay.  The launch will take place at the Protea Hotel in Saldanha Bay on Monday, 19 November 2012 from 11H00. Other stakeholders will attend the launch which will mark the commencement of the public hearing period, in an effort to support, promote and maintain the multi-stakeholder nature of the IDZ Initiative.

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) is currently considering an application for the designation of an Industrial Development Zone at Saldanha Bay as proposed by the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone Licensing Company (SBIDZ LiCo), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Western Cape Investment Promotion Agency (WESGRO), which will be gazetted for public opinion.

“The 60-day public consultation period will give members of the general public an opportunity to express their views on the designation of an IDZ at Saldanha Bay.  The Saldanha Bay IDZ will contribute in the acceleration of economic growth and job creation in the Western Cape and the dti greatly appreciates the efforts and collaboration with the Western Cape Government and the Saldanha Bay Municipality in ensuring the success of this proposed IDZ,” said Minister Davies.

The actual public consultation workshop to be conducted by the dti is scheduled for 30 November 2012 in Saldanha Bay, to ensure that an opportunity is afforded to all stakeholders and interested parties in and around Saldanha Bay to provide their feedback on the proposed designation in a face-to-face interaction with officials from the department.
