ULEMASA meets with Dirco

14 September 2018

The Union for the Local Employees in Missions Accredited to South Africa (ULEMASA) met with Mr. AJ Laubscher, Director of Immunities and Privileges at the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO). The aim of the meeting was to seek an introduction to the diplomatic missions as well as to highlight the rights of all workers in the country.

Ulemasa says that Section 23 of the South African Constitution details the rights of employees as well as employers. This section also sets out a number of labour rights, including the right to collective bargaining and to join a trade union.

The Section states “Everyone has the right to fair labour practices. Every worker has the right to form and join a trade union; to participate in the activities and programmes of a trade union; and to strike.”

Ulemasa looks forward to further strengthening ties with Dirco as well as interacting with the various diplomatic missions in South Africa.
