Zambia Independence Day

25 October, 2017

Zambia says her democratic credentials have remained admirable since the introduction of multi-party democracy.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba says Zambia has successfully held six credible and democratic elections in the last 26 years.

He said this admirable record has made Zambia a flourishing democracy both at regional and continental level.

Mr. Mwamba was speaking during the commemoration of Zambia’s 53rd Independence celebration held at the Zambian Chancery in Pretoria South Africa attended by Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata and South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Human Settlement Zoe Kota Fredricks among other dignitaries who included Zambia’s football icon Kalusha Bwalya.

Mr. Mwamba noted that Zambia has remained peaceful because she has embraced the spirit of tolerance and sacrifice, principles championed by both past and current leaders.

He noted that Zambia might have her tense moment but always resorted to civil channels of resolving her differences.

Mr. Mwamba has since called on the investor community to invest in Zambia owing to her stability and entrenched democracy.

Mr. Mwamba together with Lands and Natural Resources Minister Jean Kapata further received a book on behalf of f Zambia’s First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and his family about his contribution to Zambia’s struggle for independence authored by Dr Charles Sinkala, President of World Native Identity Foundation.

The Guest of Honour SA Deputy Minister of Human Settlement Ms ZOLEKA Kota Fredricks noted that over the years she has witnessed the expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation enhanced.

She said this was evident by the signing of more than twenty agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU’s), covering a wide range of areas.

Ms Fredricks added that the hospitality, warmth and solidarity shown to President Tambo by the Zambian government and people will live in the memories of all South Africans to infinity.
