Egypt Defence office in SA Celebrates the 44th anniversary of October 1973

On Thursday October 19, 2017, The Egyptian Defence Office in Pretoria, South Africa, held the celebration of the 44th anniversary of the glorious victory of the Egyptian Armed Forces war in October, 1973.

The celebration was held in the presence of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in South Africa, Ambassador "Sherif Issa", Ambassadors and representatives of Diplomatic Corps in South Africa and members of the Military Attachés Association, in addition to members of the Egyptian House of Representatives, members of the African Parliament "Hatem Bachat" and "Salah Afifi", figures and members of the Egyptian community in South Africa, leaders of the South African defense forces as well as Egyptian Soccer Player Amr Gamal who plays for the South African Football Club Bidvest Wits.


The celebration began by playing the national anthems of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of South Africa.

The Assistant Defence Attaché, Major Mustafa Abdul Aziz welcomed the audience and played a documentary film about the capabilities of the Egyptian armed forces and the Mohammed Najib military base.

In the beginning of his speech, the Head of Egyptian Defence Office in South Africa, Staff- Colonel Hazem El Shenawy asked the audience to stand for a minute of silence to honor the souls of Egyptian Martyrs.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate the great Egyptian people and the representatives of the Egyptian community in South Africa on the 44th year anniversary of the glorious October victory in 1973. I also would like to congratulate all the Arab world, for all their sacrifices during the war, defending the occupied Arab territories in order to liberate it which represents a great epic collaboration, integration and solidarity in the joint Arab defense efforts." Staff Colonel "El Shenawy said.

"The epic October war would not have happened without the people of Egypt and their values of sacrifice, discipline and willingness. These values represent lessons to be learned and shared when commemorating the victory as it shows the ability of the Egyptian people to overcome the political and economic challenges at that time." El Shenawy added.

El Shenawy emphasised that "the Egyptian armed forces have always been and will always be the shield and the sword of the country. The Egyptian armed forces will succeed in its war against terrorism that needs fruitful cooperation among all countries to eliminate terrorism and extremism around the world. The souls of Egyptian martyrs will never be in vain. The Egyptian army will always contribute to the process of reconstruction and development."


At the end of the ceremony, the Egyptian Defence Office in South Africa honored the Egyptian Soccer Player Amr Gamal who plays for the South African Football Club Bidvest Wits.

Egyptian products were displayed on the side line of the celebration and Egyptian food was served. Egyptian State Information Service (SIS) publications were presented and freely distributed.
