United Arab Emirates Year of Giving

The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Pretoria has embarked on the '2017 Year of Giving' and is in the process of executing projects to South African communities.

Earlier this year the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2017 as the Year of Giving. The focus of this initiative is based around three major themes which are;
1.    Strengthening Social responsibility in the Private Sector - The aim is to encourage the Private Sectors’ role in serving the country and contributing to its development
2.    Strengthening the concept of the younger generation to serve the nation and the broader community - Serving the nation guarantees the development of love for the country and others
3.    Promoting the spirit of volunteerism amongst people and establishing specialized voluntary programmes to suit the needs of all individuals in society - This will enable people to provide genuine services to the society and other communities; which in turn strengthens the concept of serving the nation in the newer generation

The goal of the ‘Year of Giving’ is to make a difference in the lives of those we care for and in ourselves. It aims to create a positive change in someone’s life, in the society and in a nation as a whole.

Dedicating 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving’ helps instil the concept of giving, love, tolerance, understanding and selflessness among all people in the society regardless of race, gender, sex, religion and ethnicity and enables people to give back to those less fortunate than themselves. Emiratis are carrying forward the humanitarian legacy of the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan who planted the seed of the spirit of giving many years ago. Choosing 2017 as the Year of Giving reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach since its establishment as well as in providing aid to many countries around the globe.

Designating a year to celebrate and spread humanitarian work enhances the country’s standing globally as one of the forerunners in providing aid around the world.

The initiative will run for the entire year of 2017 and beyond.
